Q & A with Dr. Rubinstein

Dr. Rubinstein is often asked: (Click on each question for the answer)

Q: I’ve thought about getting breast implants for a long time, but I’m still not positive they’re right for me. How can I know for sure?

A. We understand this question is something every woman considering a breast augmentation has on their mind. The answer will be different for each individual and will depend on the unique situation. Doing research and reading about different experiences with breast implants is well and good, but at some point, all the information starts to blur together. If you feel you have done as much research as possible but still feel unsure about moving forward, I suggest you come in for a consultation. Meeting and talking face to face will give you a new perspective on the surgery and what you can realistically expect. A consultation will give you a specific idea of the results you can achieve, and you will get my personal recommendations that are completely customized to meet your goals. After our consultation, you will have a much better idea about how you want to proceed.

Q: Will implants move my breasts closer together and give me more cleavage?

A. Breast implants are not designed to significantly alter the placement of your breasts or push them closer together. In order to get a good idea of what to expect in terms of placement, picture your implants centered beneath your natural nipple position. If your breasts are set wide apart, you will still have a wide set cleavage after the procedure. If achieving a fuller cleavage is your top priority, we can discuss options that will provide a bit more fullness in your inner breasts.

Q: I’m worried I’ll pick the wrong size implants. What is the best way to make sure I get the results I want without going too large or too Small?

A. While many people try on rice sizers to see what their results will look like, your implants will look a great deal different than the rice sizers, thank goodness! Because of this, I tell my patients to try not to get too attached to the idea of a specific bra size or implant volume as the goal of their breast augmentation procedure. Instead, I advise patients to bring in “inspiration photos” that show a look you hope to achieve. Working from the photos, I will use my expertise to make an informed decision about the breast shape, volume, and profile that will best flatter your figure. You will not have to go through the process of choosing breast implants alone; you can rely on my expert and professional guidance to help you make the choice right for you.

Q: I’m not happy with the way my breasts look after having a baby, but I plan on having more children. Should I get implants now or wait? What about breastfeeding?

A. While breast implants on their own should not make it impossible to breastfeed, it is important to keep in mind many women cannot breastfeed even without implants. Because breasts undergo many changes during pregnancy that can alter the results of the enhancement and may require corrective surgery later, I generally recommend women wait until they are finished having children before undergoing the augmentation procedure. I feel it’s in the patient’s best interest to have only one surgery if possible and getting implants before you are finished having children may result in needing an additional touch up surgery.

Q: How much does breast augmentation cost?

A. Breast augmentation is considered an elective surgery, so the surgeries are not covered by most insurance policies. The price varies based on your individual situation and needs. In addition to accepting cash, checks, and all major credit cards, we can also help you with financing options to make this surgery as accessible as possible. We can discuss the pricing during your consultation.

Your Implant Options

1

Choose Your Filler Type

Saline vs. Silicone Implants: Saline implants are inserted empty and filled with sterile salt water once they’re in place. Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel before they’re placed in the body. Most women feel that silicone implants resemble a more natural looking breast because the gel feels similar to human fat.

2

Choose Your shape

Round vs. Teardrop Implants: Round implants are usually placed under the muscle and have a fuller appearance in the upper part of the breast. Teardrop implants, which are sometimes referred to as contoured implants, slope downward like natural breasts.

3

Choose Your sIZE

A Matter of Aesthetics: Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters. Every 150 to 200 cc’s usually provides a volume increase of about 1 to 1 ½ cup sizes.

4

Choose Your PLACEMENT

Under or Over the Muscle: Breast implants placed under the muscle (submuscular) provide a natural breast shape and proper internal support. Implants over the muscle (submammary) create a rounder, more augmented look in most patients.
